1. Who is eligible to apply for Essential PA Protect?
Essential PA Protect is available for everyone between the ages of 18 to 50 years old (age next birthday).

2. What benefits does Essential PA Protect provide?
Essential PA Protect is a non-participating regular premium term plan that provides comprehensive protection in the event the insured dies or becomes Totally and Permanently Disabled (TPD). In the event that death or Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) of the insured are caused by an accident, this plan pays an additional amount equal to two (2) times of face amount. In addition, this plan also provides Accidental Medical and Surgical Reimbursement Benefit, Accidental Hospital Income Benefit and Accidental TPD Living Benefit. However, no benefits are payable due to suicide within thirteen (13) months after the issue date or reinstatement date, whichever is earlier. It also does not cover pre-existing illness.

3. What is the waiting period for the coverage to take effect upon policy issuance?
This plan has no waiting period and all benefits under this policy will start immediately.

4. What is the duration of the insurance coverage?
Essential PA Protect covers you up to your age of 70 years old (age next birthday).

5. What is the amount of premium that I have to pay?
The premium that you have to pay varies depending on your age, gender, plan type and smoking status. It will be payable throughout the coverage term. The premium rate may be reviewed by Manulife upon policy renewal. The Insured will be notified of the amended premium rate at least ninety (90) days prior to the renewal date.

6. When does my insurance coverage start?
Your coverage starts from the date on which your application is approved and Manulife Insurance Berhad has received the premium due.

7. What will happen to my insurance coverage if I do not pay my premium?


8. Can I buy more than one Essential PA Protect policy?
You can only be insured under one Essential PA Protect policy. If you accidentally signed up for more than one Essential PA Protect policy, we will refund the premiums paid for all other Essential PA Protect policy without interest.

9. Will I get any refund if I change my mind and would like to cancel my Essential PA Protect policy?
Yes. You are given a “Free Look Period” of fifteen (15) calendar days to review the suitability of your newly purchased insurance plan from the receipt date of the policy. If you cancel the policy during the “Free-Look Period”, all premiums paid will be refunded to you by Manulife and your policy shall be cancelled.

If you cancel after the “Free-Look Period” but before expiry, the cash surrender value, if any, will be paid to you by Manulife and the policy shall be cancelled. Please be aware that if you terminate your policy before its expiry, you may get back less than the amount you have paid in.


10. What are the requirements for a claim?

11. What are the major exclusions for this plan?
  1. a) No benefit will be payable in respect of an Insured under the policy if death of the Insured occurs due to Insured, whether sane or insane, committing suicide within thirteen (13) months after the Issue Date;

  2. b) No benefit will be payable in respect of an Insured under the policy due to a pre-existing illness at the Issue Date of the Policy Information Page or endorsement date.

  3. c) No benefit will be payable in respect of an Insured under the policy where the Disability occurs as a result of:

    1. I. Any attempt at suicide, whether when sane or insane, or any intentional self-inflicted injuries;

    2. II. Military air force or naval service in time of declared or undeclared war or while under orders for warlike operations or restoration of public order;

    3. III. Commission of a criminal act;

    4. IV. Aviation activities other than as a fare paying passenger or crew on a commercial passenger airline;

    5. V. Under the influence of intoxicating liquor or as a result of drug or substance abuse;

    6. VI. Participation in any hazardous pursuit such as, but not limited to, mountaineering, scuba diving, hang gliding, speed or endurance contest, etc.
