1. Who is eligible to apply for Essential CI?
Essential CI is exclusive to selected Air Asia customers between the ages of 18 to 50 years old (age next birthday).

2. What benefits does Essential CI provide?
Essential CI is a non-participating term life critical illness plan that is designed to provide the optimum protection in the event the Insured is diagnosed with any one of the five (5) major critical illnesses, namely, Cancer, Stroke, Heart Attack, Coronary Heart By-Pass Surgery and End Stage Kidney Failure. This plan pays a lump sum benefit of up to RM75,000 upon diagnosis of any one of the covered critical illnesses, depending on the plan type that you have selected. However, in the event one of the Critical Illnesses is diagnosed after the respective waiting period but within the first six (6) months from the Issue Date or any reinstatement date, whichever is later, the benefits will be limited to twenty per cent (20%) of the face amount as stated in the Policy Information Page. Thereafter, the policy shall be terminated.

3. What is the waiting period for the coverage to take effect upon policy issuance?
The coverage under this policy will only start:
i. sixty (60) days after the Issue Date or Reinstatement date, whichever is later, for Cancer, Heart Attack and Coronary Artery By-Pass Surgery.
ii. thirty (30) days after the Issue Date or Reinstatement date, whichever is later, for End Stage Kidney Failure and Stroke.

In addition, there is a survival period, where the benefits will not be paid if the Insured dies within thirty (30) days from the date of the first diagnosis of any one of the covered critical illness under the policy.

4. What is the duration of the insurance coverage?
The insurance coverage is yearly renewable up to Insured’s age of 70 (age next birthday).

5. What is the amount of premium that I have to pay?
The premium that you have to pay varies depending on your age, gender, plan type and smoking status. It will be payable throughout the coverage term. The premium rate may be reviewed by Manulife upon policy renewal. The Insured will be notified of the amended premium rate at least ninety (90) days prior to the renewal date.

6. When does my insurance coverage start?
Your coverage starts from the date on which your application is approved and Manulife Insurance Berhad has received the premium due, subject to the waiting period.

7. What will happen to my insurance coverage if I do not pay my premium?
If you do not pay your premium within the thirty (30) days grace period, your policy may lapse and you will lose your insurance coverage unless your policy has acquired cash value.

8. Can I buy more than one Essential CI policy?
You can only be insured under one Essential CI policy. If you accidentally signed up for more than one Essential CI policy, we will refund the premiums paid for all other Essential CI policy without interest.

9. Will I get any refund if I change my mind and would like to cancel my Essential CI policy?
Yes. You are given a “Free Look Period” of fifteen (15) calendar days to review the suitability of your newly purchased insurance plan from the receipt date of the policy. If you cancel the policy during the “Free-Look Period”, all premiums paid will be refunded to you by Manulife and your policy shall be cancelled.
If you cancel after the “Free-Look Period” but before expiry, the cash surrender value, if any, will be paid to you by Manulife and the policy shall be cancelled.
Please be aware that if you terminate your policy before its expiry, you may get back less than the amount you have paid in.

10. What are the requirements for a claim?

11. What are the major exclusions for this plan?
No benefits are payable if the:
a) critical illness is due to a pre-existing Illness at the Issue Date or any Reinstatement Date of the policy, whichever is later; or
b) critical illness is caused by the donation of any of the Insured's organs; or
c) critical illness is caused, directly or indirectly, by alcohol or substance abuse, congenital abnormalities including physical defects present from birth, attempted suicide or intentional self-inflicted injury.
d) insured is tested positive for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Antibody, either before or after the Issue Date or Endorsement Date or Reinstatement Date of this policy
